OGUN SPEAKER URGES NMA TO MAKE MORE SACRIFICE IN DELIVERING HEALTH SERVICE

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elemide Oludaisi, has tasked members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to continue to make necessary sacrifice as government is already addressing the issues of shortage of manpower confronting the the various government hospitals across the State.

The Speaker threw the challenge, when he played host to the members of the State branch of (NMA) led by Dr. Azeem Ashimi on a courtesy call on the Assembly today at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He assured the association of government’s continued commitment to addressing the challenges facing the health sector, while commending the members of the association, who decided to stay and practice their profession in Nigeria.

“I want to commend the Nigerian Medical Association for their dedication and hard work. They play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our citizens, and we appreciate their tireless efforts”, he stated.

Earlier in his presentation, Dr. Ashimi solicited the Assembly’s support for the amendment and domestication of law criminalizing suicide, saying people who suffered mental health issues are the ones contemplating suicide and should be treated as such and not throwing suicide victims into jail.

He stressed the need to address shortage of manpower occasioned by migration and implementation of enhanced salary structure for medical practitioners.
