REHABILITATION OF HEALTH CENTRES: OGHA PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE CONDUCTS VERIFICATION VISIT
Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption have conducted an on-the-spot assessment visit to some Primary Health Care Centres across the three Senatorial Districts of the State to ascertain the level of work done in the rehabilitation of the facilities in compliance with financial regulations.
The House Committee Chairman, Hon. Damilare Bello, who led other lawmakers on the visit in company of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola and other top officials in the State Health Sector, to some of the PHC Centres, located at Ita-Osu in Ijebu-Ode, Imosan in Odogbolu and Agura in Sagamu, as well as Ojugboro in Abeokuta North, Isaga Owode in Yewa South and Wasinmi in Ewekoro, said that the visit was to ascertain the level of rehabilitation work done by contractors in relation to the released funds for the health facilities during the 2022 financial year.
Bello in company of Honourables Wahab Haruna, Fola Salami, Yusuf Amosun, Awolaja Dickson and Waliu Owode, stated that the visit availed the Committee the opportunity to verify the level of work done in line with the recommendations of the 2021/2022 Auditor General’s reports, adding that such became necessary to ensure the judicious utilisation of government resources.
While being conducted round the facilities, Bello noted that the Committee would make necessary recommendations to the State Primary Health Care Board and State Ministry of Health, with a view to enabling them improve on their financial accountability and project monitoring, that would in turn aid quality health care delivery for the benefit of the people.
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who applauded the lawmakers for the verification visit, described it as a more independent audit exercise that would enable the Ministry have first recommendations from the Assembly to further improve on the ministry’s activities and programmes.
