CONTINUOUS TRAINING, PANACEA TO ACHIEVING LEGISLATIVE EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION- OGUN SPEAKER

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, says continous training of legislative staff members is critical to enhancing quality service delivery meant to achieve the vision and goals of the legislature, thereby contributing to the advancement of good governance in any democracy.

Rt. Hon. Elemide, stated this while declaring open an in-house training for members of staff at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, explaining that it was expedient for the workforce to be in tune with the current global best practices in legislative business.

According to him, human capacity building for the Assembly workforce, who are the engine room, was essential in achieving international best practices in legislative matters, which would lead to excellence and innovation in governance.

The Speaker stressed the need for the workers across cadres to be abreast of trends, positing that was the basis for organizing the in-house training with a view to boosting their productivity.

He assured of more welfare initiatives for the Assembly staff, while commending the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his magnanimity in prioritizing the welfare of the legislative staff.

The Speaker noted that the governor was committed to giving a more conducive working environment and capacity development programmes amongst others to the workers.

In his presentation, the Resource Person and former Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Agbolade James Talabi who spoke on “Rudiments and Distinctiveness of the Parliament”, said that the Legislature being the arm that represents the voice of the common man in any democracy deserves a well trained workforce to aid good governance.

Speaking further on his paper titled: “Practices and Ethics in the Legislature”, Talabi admonished the staffers to be upright, display high level of brilliance, integrity, diligence, loyalty, persistence, resourcefulness, dedication and mastery of legislative duties, while thanking Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration for the redesigning of the State House of Assembly Complex to meet up with international standards.

Responding on behalf of the participants, the Director of Information, Mr. Jamiu Lawal lauded the leadership of the Assembly for putting in place the training, assuring that the officers would take advantage of the training and redouble their efforts towards achieving higher productivity.
