OGUN SPEAKER ASSURES IWOPIN COMMUNITY ON PROMOTION OF OKOSHI FESTIVAL

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, assured the residents of Iwopin Community in Ogun Waterside State constituency of necessary legislative support meant for the promotion of the Okoshi Festival (Boat Regatta) meant to showcase the cultural and economic potentials of the people.

Elemide gave the assurance, while playing host to the Egbe Afobaje, in charge of the promotion of the festival led by Giwa Lekan Sanni, assuring them that the Assembly would assist in promoting the festival and push for its official recognition as one of the top cultural events in the State.

He also appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for being a culture-friendly leader, especially for approving the annual celebration of Isese Day now holding on every 2nd of August; noting that encouraging the promotion of cultural festivals like Okoshi would attract visitors from far and near, bringing economic benefits not only to Iwopin Kingdom but to the entire State.

In his remarks, a member representing the Constituency, Hon. Samsideen Lawal, thanked the Speaker for his inclusive leadership and requested more help for the successful organization of Okoshi Festival.

Earlier in their presentations, the Giwa Egbe, Chief Sanni, expressed gratitude to the Assembly and State government for their efforts in delivering good governance, highlighting Iwopin’s cultural history to the fact that the kingdom represented the State at FESTAC ’77 and won first position; urging the Assembly to help make the festival a global celebration.
