OGUN ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCES NEW MINORITY WHIP, LAUDS FOUNDING FATHERS AS STATE CELEBRATS 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Following the recent defection of a former Minority Whip, Hon. Rasheed Kashamu, from the People’s Democratic Party, to the All Progressives Congress, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, today announced the resolution of the Minority caucus, intimating the Assembly on his replacement with a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Hon. Samisudeen Lawal, as the new Minority Whip of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement was made in line with parliamentary procedures to ensure the smooth function and proper representation of the Minority caucus in the House.

In his remarks under the motion for adjournment, the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, expressed appreciation to the Speaker for consistently upholding the ethics and tenets of the legislative institution and for recognising and safeguarding the rights of the minority caucus.

Meanwhile, as the State celebrates the 50th anniversary of its creation, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has lauded the founding fathers of the State, led by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo for their foresight and immense contributions to the growth and development of the State in the last five decades.

Elemide, who made the remarks while fielding questions from journalists ahead of the celebration of the golden anniversary of the creation of the State; explained that the foundation of industry, investment initiatives and political development had helped to position the State ahead its peers in the comity of States in the Federation.

He recalled the legacy projects initiated by the founding fathers including the former Gateway Hotels in Abeokuta, Ota and Ijebu-Ode, which had be concessioned for better performance and aid returns on investments, the State Television and State Broadcasting Corporation, as well as the State University amongst others, which had helped position the State as industrial and educational hubs in the region.
