OGUN ASSEMBLY CHALLENGES TOURISM MINISTRY ON DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM SITES, ADOPTION OF P-P-P
Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, today wrapped up the 2025 budget defence sessions with a call on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to set machineries in motion for improved investment in the State’s tourism sector through public- private partnership arrangement.
The members of the Committee took turn to urge the Ministry to extend its renovation initiatives to all tourist sites across the State, highlighting the importance of collaboration with the private sector entities to maximize revenue generation for government.
They emphasized the critical role of tourism in driving economic growth, noting that the State’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions hold significant untapped potentials.
Earlier in his presentation, the State Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Chief Sesan Fagbayi, said that the ministry had initiated efforts towards revitalizing and enhancing tourism infrastructure to attract tourists to such sites like the historic Olumo Rock and other sites in the State to generate revenue for the State.
The Commissioner, who presented a budget proposal of ₦1.505bn for the next fiscal year, comprising of N620.9m for capital projects, while N884.6m would go for recurrent, also added that a revenue target of ₦67m was being proposed for the same period.
