OGHA COMMITTEE SET TO INSPECT KEY INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS, REQUESTS MORE FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS FROM AGENCIES
Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption, chaired by Hon. Damilare Bello, has announced plans to inspect key infrastructural projects executed in 2023. These include the bridges constructed at Ipokia, as well as the two roads leading to Babcock University, Ilisan constructed by the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Damilare Bello, disclosed this while playing host to the Management of the Ministry led by the Commissioner, Engr. Ade Akinsanya during the ongoing consideration of audit reports on Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Chairman, in company of other honourable members, including Honourables Adebisi Oyedele, Waliu Owode, Babatunde Tella, Lukman Adeleye, Dickson Awolaja, Musefiu Lamidi, Yusuf Sheriff, Wahab Haruna and Wasiu Ayodele stated that the inspection would be carried out in collaboration with the Auditor-General’s Office and it wasbmeant to aid accountability and transparency in the utilization of public funds.
The Committee reiterated its commitment to promoting accountability and probity in governance, as part of the ongoing consideration of the audit reports on government’s MDAs in the State, as it also considered the audit report on the Ministry of Budget and Planning and the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The lawmakers scrutinized their financial records and directed the submission of additional supporting documents to validate their reports.
The House Committee therefore requested the Ministry to submit financial records relating to the construction of AgroCargo Airport and documents on contractors finance scheme agreements amongst others, while commending the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure on the various road projects going on in some parts of the State.
In the same vein, the House Committee directed the Ministry of Budget and Planning led by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Dada, to provide details of revenue and budget reports, local travels and transport training expenditure, as well as monitoring and evaluation expenses, including documents on annual budget implementation.
The House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption also directed the Management of the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) led by the Board’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mikail Lawal to present documents on land and building under the capital expenditure, documents covering projects, maintenance of public schools, office stationery and consumables as well as Access Bank statements covering January to December 2023 to be submitted to the Committee by Wednesday, 23rd April, 2025.
