OGHA COMMITTEE BEGINS OVERSIGHT VISIT TO LGAs, CHARGES IMEKO- AFON LG ON FISCAL DISCIPLINE
The House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, chaired by Hon. Jemili Akingabde today began oversight visit to local government councils to assess the various projects carried out by the local government councils, with emphasis on the importance of maintaining transparency, fiscal discipline and adherence to due process in local government administration.
Hon. Akingbade threw the challenge when he led the other Committee members on oversight visit to Imeko-Afon Local Government to asssess the level of projects carried out by the local government council, stressing the need for Finance and General Purpose Committee ( FG&PC) to convene at least once or twice monthly with detailed reports.
The House Committee Chairman also requested the council to provide a comprehensive list of all ongoing and completed projects, their cost implications, memos for approval of proposals, bills of quantity, vouchers and projects approved at FG &PC meetings.
He directed the Head of Local Government Administration, the Director, General Services and Administration, the Treasurer and the Chairman to present the documents to the State House of Assembly for further scrutiny.
He noted that the visit was aimed at appraising the council’s performance on the implementation of the 2024 budget and ensure alignment with developmental goals of the current government in the State.
Hon. Akingbade in company of his Vice, Hon. Dickson Awolaja and members including Honourables Olakunle Sobunkola, Adegoke Adeyanju, Oluseun Adesanya and Lukman Adeleye, assessed various projects implemented by the local government council including Ajegunle Market in Imeko to assess its condition and its contribution to the local economy as well as other ongoing and completed projects.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of Imeko Afon Local Government Council, Hon. Theophilus Olarode, appreciated the Committee for the oversight, which he noted would help promote accountability, while assuring that all the recommendations of the House Committee would be implemented.
