OGUN ASSEMBLY PASSES RESOLUTION DIRECTING EWEKORO LG TO REINSTATE ADEBOLAJO AS BAALE ABESE TOWN

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution directing Ewekoro Local Government authority to immediately withdraw the certificate issued to one Mr. Babayomi Aikulola and reinstate Chief Musiliu Adebolajo as the Baale of Abese Town with all necessary rights he deserves for the position.

The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Ethics, Justice and Public Petitions on the petition received from Chief Bankole and Co, Solicitor to Chief Adebolajo (Baale of Abese Town) against Mr. Aikulola by the Chairman, Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, who thereafter moved for the adoption of the report, seconded by Hon. Yusuf Amosun and supported by the Whole House.

The Assembly passed the resolution shortly after the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye moved the motion converting the report of the Committee into the House resolution, seconded by Hon. Dickson Awolaja and supported by the entire House through a voice vote.

The resolution directed the Local Government Council authority to submit a report to the House confirming compliance, while warning the petitionee to refrain from further parading himself as Baale of Abese to prevent potential unrest in the town.

It states further, “the present Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adeola Matemilola should desist from proceeding with installation of the petitionee as Baale of Abese, given that it contravenes Section 50 of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State, 2023.

The House received a petition dated 28th February, 2025 from Olusesan A. Bankole & Co., solicitor to High Chief Musiliu Awofe Adebolajo (Baale of Abese Town), authored against Mr Babayomi Aikulola. The petition was titled, “Threat to lives, conduct likely to cause apprehension and breach of peace, imposition, impersonation, and instigation of violence against our client: Plea for the preservation and protection of the peace, lives, and properties at Abese Town, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

In an effort to provide amicable solutions to the issues raised in the petition and to forestall any potential outbreak of crisis and unrest in the town, which may likely be orchestrated by the chieftaincy title dispute, the House Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petition held meetings with the parties involved on Monday 17th, Tuesday 25th March and Tuesday 1st July, 2025 at Room 215 of the House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Committee gave the petitioner ample opportunity to explain in details, the issues raised in his petition, while the petitionee was equally permitted to respond to the allegations levelled against him by the petitioner.

The prescribed authority with the reserved right to install a Baale in Abese Town is the Olowu of Owu.

The selection process for the position of Baale of Abese Town, initiated by the late Olowu of Owu, Oba (Dr.) Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu (Amororo II) involved the petitioner and petitionee, as well as another individual.

The prescribed authority, the late Olowu of Owu, sought and obtained approval from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to install the petitioner as the Baale of Abese Town.

The petitioner presented convincing documentary evidence to the committee in support of his claim to being the authentic Baale of Abese Town”, the report stated.
