OGUN ASSEMBLY INTERVENES IN TESCOM’S REDISTRIBUTION OF TEACHERS, URGES REVIEW OF GENUINE CASES

In view of the need to address certain concerns from stakeholders, the Ogun State House of Assembly has waded into the recent transfer/ redistribution of teachers across the State, with an appeal to the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to address some areas of concerns raised by the State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS).

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting involving the State lawmakers, management of TESCOM and ASUSS leadership at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He urged the TESCOM Leadership to make use of its Appeal Committee to consider some genuine cases and appeals, including those bordering on health and welfare as well as physical challenges amongst others to further give the exercise a human face.

Earlier in their presentations, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, speaking through the State Chairman of TUC, who was also the immediate past Chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, Welfare Secretary, Femi Ayannuga and the State Secretary, Oluseyi Bankole of ASUSS, stated that while the union was not opposed to redeployment, it called for a more humane approach, citing concerns over timing, impact on external examinations such as WAEC, school performance, accommodation and transportation challenges, teachers’ morale and professional stability.

The union made a passionate appeal to TESCOM to assist in reviewing the exercise in the interest of well-being of the teachers to achieve effective teaching and learning across public secondary schools in the State.

Responding, Hon. Adeola Akintonde, Commissioner 1 in the Teaching Service Commission, appreciated the Speaker and the House for their timely intervention, noting that TESCOM had anticipated such concerns, constituted an appeal panel and assured that all genuine cases and complaints raised by the union would be carefully addressed.
