The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has assured the members of the Association of New Ogun State Civil and Public Service Retirees of the Assembly’s readiness to engage the Executive arm on their demands following the submission of a correspondence detailing the challenges arising from the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme in the State.
Elemide gave the assurance while receiving the retirees who marched to the Assembly Complex after submitting a letter to the Governor, promising that government would address their concerns in due course.
According to him, the concerns raised were genuine and deserved urgent attention, assuring the retirees that he would personally engage the Governor on their behalf; while exploring all possible legislative and administrative options to find a lasting solution to the issue.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Mr Omopariola Shadrach Oluwole, explained that the transition from the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme to the Contributory Pension Scheme had affected many retirees, appealing to the Governor, through the House, to defer the scheme’s implementation and consider restoring affected retirees to the previous pension arrangement.
