The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, says the State legislature is irrevocably committed to collaborating with the World Bank and other stakeholders to enhance healthcare delivery in the State.
The Speaker gave the assurance, while receiving a multi-agency delegation, comprising officials from the World Bank, Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning, Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Governors Forum, who was in the State to review Public Financial Management at the Primary Health Care level during a courtesy call on the Assembly, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He clarified that the legislative arm could only handle issues relating to legislation, aporopriation and oversight, stressing that the release of funds rests with the Executive, even as he commended the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the massive investments in the renovation and reconstruction of Primary Health Care centres across the State.
Rt. Hon. Elemide further called for increased recruitment of medical personnel and improved funding for PHCs to strengthen health care service delivery at the grassroots, so as to sustain the gains recorded in healthcare infrastructure.
Earlier in his speech, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Maxwell Dapaah, acknowledged visible infrastructural improvements in all the PHCs visited across several local government areas but raised concerns over insufficient funding and lack of automation of records amongst others, noting that these issues had been communicated to the Executive.
