AUDIT REPORTS: AGENCIES TASKED ON RECONCILIATION OF FINANCIAL RECORDS, AS SPEAKER RECEIVES NIGERIAN PEACE CORPS

Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption has continued its consideration of the 2024 audit report with a charge to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government in the State to always ensure prompt reconciliation of their financial records.
The members of the Committee, led by Hon.Damilare Bello gave the charge today while taking on the State Ministry of Transport and the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services for the consideration of the 2024 audit report.
The Chairman of the Committee in company of the Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye as well as Honourables Waliu Owode, Samsudeen Lawal, Fatiu Folawewo and Babatunde Tella, cautioned the Agencies on the need to ensure that their reports are professionally collated and instructed the Ministry and the Bureau to reconcile their financial records before presentation.
The House Committee implored the Agencies to ensure that their detailed records be re- presented to the Committee, and should align with the Auditor General’s report to avoid any inconsistencies.
The Committee also stressed the importance of submitting the reconciled reports with all required supporting documents as soon as possible to facilitate timely review to promote transparency and accountability.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Tokunbo Peters, and the Management of the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Jide Onakoya, represented by Mrs. Abike Oladunjoye, were directed to ensure that their revised records align with the Auditor General’s recommendations.
In another development, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, today played host to Nigerian Peace Corps, Ogun State Chapter, and urged them to submit their concerns and documentation to enable the Assembly domesticate any relevant national legislation and secure a House resolution for onward transmission to the Executive arm of government.
He assured the delegation of the Assembly’s support in promoting safety and curbing harmful youthful exuberance in secondary schools across the State.
The State Commandant of the Peace Corps, Olufemi Akinyemi, presented the organisation’s memorandum of understanding with the Federal Government, outlining the Corps’ focus on school safety and youth discipline to enhance civic responsibility.
