{"id":1594,"date":"2026-08-07T17:27:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T17:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ogha.og.gov.ng\/blog\/?p=1594"},"modified":"2026-09-14T17:29:43","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T17:29:43","slug":"stakeholders-commend-ogha-on-proposed-ogun-agricultural-advancement-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ogha.og.gov.ng\/blog\/2026\/08\/07\/stakeholders-commend-ogha-on-proposed-ogun-agricultural-advancement-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"STAKEHOLDERS COMMEND OGHA ON PROPOSED OGUN AGRICULTURAL ADVANCEMENT BILL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stakeholders at the public hearing on the proposed Ogun State Agricultural Advancement and Sustainability Bill, 2025, have unanimously commended the Assembly on the legislation, describing it as a timely intervention capable of repositioning the agricultural sector for increased productivity, aid food security, employment generation and sustainable economic growth in the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In their contributions, the representative of the Office of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Mr. Chuks Obi, and Chairman\/Group Managing Director, Olusanjo Peters Group of Company Nigeria Limited, Abeokuta, Dr. Olusanjo-Peters Olugbemiga- Adegoke,<br>lauded the State Assembly for the bill, urging that the proposed legislation incorporate technological and scientific advancements in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also stated that the bill being considered would be of great benefit to farmers in the State; while helping to reposition the State as a leading agricultural development hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On their part, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Taiwo Oluwole and the Chairman, Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode<br>advocated the establishment of a Community Farm Development Scheme and the promotion of agricultural mechanisation and irrigation to boost food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They called for the introduction of incentives to encourage greater youth participation in agriculture to sustain the development of the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other stakeholders at the public hearing included the representative of the State Command of the Nigeria Police, DCP Gbenga Adeoye and that of CDHR, Comrade Yinka Folarin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Waliu Owode, represented by Hon. Olusegun Kaka Odunuga , said that the proposed legislation would encourage private-sector participation through tax incentives, agro-industrial parks, processing zones, public-private partnerships and the establishment of the State Agricultural Security Task Force (ASTF) to protect farmlands, agricultural infrastructure and investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that it would also promote peaceful coexistence within farming communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also speaking, the sponsor of the bill, Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Babatunde Tella, assured stakeholders that every contribution made at this public hearing would be carefully reviewed to strengthen the effectiveness of the bill; while ensuring that the legislation would incorporate more science and Artificial Intelligence-backed innovations capable of encouraging farmers, increasing productivity and accelerating the economic development of the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, while declaring the stakeholders&#8217; forum open, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, described agriculture as &#8220;a critical pillar of any economy with the capacity of providing livelihoods for thousands of citizens and also serving as a dependable source of employment, industrial raw materials, and wealth creation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that the bill sought to establish mechanisation and equipment-leasing centres in each Senatorial District, develop irrigation and water-management systems, improve access to quality seedlings through OGADEP distribution channels, strengthen farm-to-market roads, storage facilities, agro-processing centres, agricultural markets and logistics hubs for domestic and export access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Speaker further noted that the legislation would place the State in a veritable position to harness emerging technologies in advancing agricultural productivity and competitiveness through an AI-Powered Agricultural Data Centre, AI drones, satellite surveillance, smart irrigation systems, digital extension services and e-market platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emphasising the Assembly&#8217;s commitment to participatory lawmaking, Rt. Hon.
