OGUN LAWMAKERS EULOGIZE PIONEER MAJORITY LEADER, LATE ELEMIDE
Serving and former members of the Ogun State House of Assembly today paid glowing tributes to the late pioneer Majority leader and member, who represented Odeda State Constituency between 1979 and 1983, Hon. Babatunde Elemide, describing him as a legislator whose wealth of experience was significant to the success recorded by the first legislative session and subsequent generations.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, who led the lawmakers to pay last respect to the late member of the First Legislature in the State at a special plenary in his honour at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, recalled that it was worthy to celebrate the life and time of the late lawyer, who conquered his world with unique achievements.
Oluomo, while commiserating with the families of the lawmaker including a family and member representing Odeda State Constituency, Oludaisi Elemide, stated that he would be missed by a lot of people whose lives he had imparted and influenced positively.
He added that his contributions to debates in the Assembly from the perspective of the legal profession remained a model for all public officials to emulate.
“It is also important to stress that he was a true representative of the people of his constituency throughout his tenure as a legislator and the first Majority Leader in the House.
His contributions to administration of justice, equity and fair play as a Barrister justified the portfolios he held as the Secretary and Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association of Ibadan and Abeokuta Branches respectively from 1977 to 1978.
As we lay the remains of the courageous man, we take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life as a father, community representative and a leader of reputable character”, Oluomo submitted.
Earlier while recalling the deceased’s legacies as a lawmaker between 1979 and 1983 in the State House of Assembly, members who represented Owode and Ijebu-Igbo State Constituencies in the third legislature in 1992 to 1993, Oladipo Akingbade and Babatunde Odugbesan respectively as well as Fasiu Bakene, who served in the fifth Assembly, remarked that the deceased was a devout christian, a thorough bred lawyer, an astute legislator and efficient representative, who lived a life worthy of emulation.
In their tributes, a family member, who currently represents Odeda State Constituency, Oludaisi Elemide, the deceased’s eldest son , Olabode Elemide and a daughter of the late lawmaker, Mrs. Ayo Adenekan, said that their father was a community leader, who served the common man with passion, very diligent and generous, noting that he embodied selflessness, accountability and integrity during his lifetime.
