Members of the Ogun State House Committee on Health have made a case for an immediate procurement of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital ( OOUTH) and the State Hospital, Ijaye to effectively assist in conducting necessary medical investigations to ease treatment of patients in the hospitals in the State.

The Members of the House Committee led by its Chairman, Hon. Wahab Haruna, made the request while appraising the half year budget performance of the Ministry of Health and other agencies in the Health sector at the Assembly Complex,Oke- Mosan ,Abeokuta.

He said that the ultra-modern equipment when purchased would help to create detailed images of the organs and tissues in patients’ body, assuring that the Assembly was ready to support the sector in achieving successful implementation of quality health care services to the people.

The lawmakers also commended the State Hospital Management Board, State Ministry of Health and OOUTH for their improved revenue generation.

Responding on behalf of the Agencies under the health sector, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Nike Elemide, said plans were underway to purchase the machine, which she noted would greatly improve health care service delivery in the State.

She explained that the equipment is capable of detecting brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, developmental anomalies, multiple sclerosis, stroke, dementia, infections, and the causes of headache.

The Committee also appraised the budget performance of the State Primary Health Care Development Board, State Agency for the Control of AIDs ( OGSACA) State alternate Medicine Board and State Health Insurance Agency as well as State and General hospitals in the State.

Lending her voice, the Chief Medical Director of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase said that the machine which runs 24 hours is a medical imaging technique that uses a magnetic film and computer-generated radio waves in detecting illnesses.
