OGUN ASSEMBLY TASKS TRANSPORT UNIONS TO STREAMLINE OPERATIONS, PROMOTE PEACE
Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the leadership of the transport unions in the State to find a way of accommodating all its members in all its ticketing operations and conduct themselves in a manner that will continue to promote peace and tranquility in the State.
The Assembly Majority Leader, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff threw the challenge, during a tripartite meeting between the leadership of NURTW and the Officials of the Ministry of Transportation led by the Commissioner, Engr. Gbenga Dairo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Majority Leader in company of other lawmakers cautioned the unions to avoid any act that could threaten the peace in the various parks and garages across the State.
Other lawmakers, who spoke including the Assembly Chief Whip, Hon. Omolola Bakare, Honourables Adebisi Oyedele, Yusuf Amosun and Damilare Bello, urged the leadership of the unions to always accommodate their members, noting that the alleged threat to peace by some members of the unions in Ijebu-Ode must be immediately addressed.
In his submission, the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Dairo stated that government was not interested in micro-managing the unions, rather the unions should manage their affairs themselves, pointing out that the concern of government was to prevent exploitative tendencies that might arise from the unions’ activities.
He warned that government would step in immediately if it discovered that the unions activities were threatening the peace of the State.
