OGUN SPEAKER ENJOINS RESIDENTS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ON-GOING FREE HEALTH SCREENING

Residents of Ogun State, especially adults above the age of 40 years, have been enjoined to take advantage of the ongoing free health screening tagged: “Project 10 million know your number control your number”, an initiative of Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum with the support of the State Government to ensure that the people are conversant with their figures and take proactive measures to live a healthy life.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, gave the admonition today, while leading his co- lawmakers to undergo the screening at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.

Elemide noted that it was important for all adults of 40 years and above to check their blood pressure and sugar level regularly to protect themselves from health challenges associated with heart related diseases and diabetes.

Commending the State Government through the Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Governor’s Forum for the initiative, urging all residents of the State to take advantage of the programme to effectively manage their health status.

Speaking, a Deputy Director of Nursing Services in the State Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Oluremi Mosuro, said that the save 10 million lives projects was meant to ensure that everyone know and control their number, which included the readings of the heart to control the blood pressure level and a blood sugar test with a view to controlling the glucose level in the blood.

She noted that high blood pressure and diabetes are like siamese twins, as one draws the other, cautioning that taking proactive measures through regularly screening, treatment and follow-up would guarantee a healthy life.

She also underscored the importance of regular exercise for the people, explaining that such could be brisk walk, going to the gym or engaging in simple exercise to remain healthy, pointing out that the various teams of the outreach had visited markets and motor parks to conduct screening for all segments of the populace.

Commending Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for the initiative, she further affirmed that the State Government had sponsored 50% of health insurance scheme for all public servants in the State to enjoy quality healthcare services in all the public health facilities in the State,
